One of the newest fads on the web is a site called YouTube. Here are some quick stats about YouTube after a year of existence. YouTube hosts over six million videos, growing at about 20 percent every month. The videos take up 45 terabytes of storage — about 5,000 home computers’ worth. The total time spent watching YouTube videos since it started in 2005 after one year is 9,305 years! The content requires several million dollars’ worth of bandwidth a month to transmit. YouTube has taken away the once popular saying 15 minutes of fame to having as much time of fame as you want. YouTube slogan is broadcast yourself. At any point in a day anyone can broadcast anything they want about themselves and can claim to be anything they want. With any web based fad it normally means students are driving the popularity. With such popularity we have decided in student ministry to use the popularity of YouTube to our advantage and start a series Called UTube. Instead of broadcasting yourself we have chosen to broadcast Jesus.
As you watch YouTube everyone who posts a video claims to be something. During this four weeks we will be studying the “I am” statements of Jesus as He broadcasted who He is. Our hope is students can learn to trust God for who He says He is. I will put some links up in later posts so you can watch the videos we use during this series. I am so grateful to be part of a student ministry that thinks outside of the box and meets students where they are. Please pray with us during this series that students will take the truth that Jesus is who he broadcasted to be in every situation of life.
