Of course I am late.  I get caught in meetings and forget…anyways enough of my excuses.  Let’s get to what is happening with Nehemiah today!

Nehemiah loves names.  :)  He might be what you call a name dropper.  That is he how once again he starts off chapter 10.   The Israelites had just finished a time of worshiping and coming back to God.   We see that in Chapter 9.   And now have decided they are going to sign a written agreement of how they are going to live.  I wonder as I read this if all the people signed this agreement or just some of them.  I wonder if Nehemiah named names so that peopel would know who didn’t sign the agreements.  Stinks to be you if your name isn’t on this list and people are like awesome good to see you don’t want to follow after God.  Anyways, as you get into verses 30 and on you can take away some principles that maybe we need to agree to as leaders.  When Nehemiah takes 29 verses to name names, we can see there is power when we make an agreement with a large group of people of accountability.  What can we take away from what they agreed to?

Verse 30: To be totally honest, I dont understand this.  I am going to do some more research tonight and hopefully post something in my next post of Nehemiah of this.  I have a feeling it has to do something with incest etc.  I will let you know what I find out.

Verse 31:  Keeping the Sabbath sacred had been something they wanted to bring back into their community.  By not buying grain from these people they were showing God honor and focusing in on Him for the day.  Very important principle for a leader is to make sure that you are setting aside a time during the day that you are resting and spending time with the Lord.  We all get so busy that we forget about this.

The rest of the chapter is them talking about giving an offering to God.  They mention a lot of their first fruits.  Read this carefully what areas of your life is God calling you to give back to him FIRST.

Being a leader is living in community with people and being willing to be held accountable by them!

One Response to “Nehemiah 10”

  1. Don’t worry I am a little late too.School takes a lot.

    Well where do I begin…
    Okay,
1.The people where talking about following the Law of God.At first I didn’t get anything but after a while I realized that just like them following the Law of God,we need to follow His word each and everyday.

2.Also we need to take responsibility and step up as a leader.Do what we know is right and lead others to do the same.

    Honestly Chris,
    the names are killing me.
My mind wonders off,and lately I have been very tired. So I don’t understand that part.So I will have to study it harder.
