The book of James is an incredible book for us to read through for students who feel called to ministry or leadership.  I believe there are some principles we can take and apply to our lives about this book.  Let’s look first understand a little bit about James the author.  I found this in the front of my study bible and wanted to pass this along to you so that you have a little background.

-James was probalby the brother of Jesus.

-Jesus appeared to Him after his resurrection.

-Paul called James a Pillar of The Church in Galation.

-Once Peter was out of jail he asked that someone tell James.

James is writing to to a group of Christians in this book.  We are not totally sure is if it just to Christians or to Jewish Christians since he addresses his audience at the twelve tribes scattered among the nations.  James writes this letter to encourage early Christians to continue in their faith.

 James Chapter 1:1-18

-First as leaders and as Christ followers we must be willing to work through trails.  James even says consider trials as joy!  That is always hard for me to understand because when times get tough, its hard to look and have joy.  But we know as leaders when opposition comes, we must continue to go through, and if people oppose us then we should use our influence to show them why we do what we do.

-Secondly, as leaders I love how James reminds us to ask for wisdom.  All of us as leaders need wisdom!  If we lack in it, we must ask knowing God will give it to us.  There are many times in my life when I don’t know exaclty what to do that I have to just take a step back and ask the Lord to lead me in what to do and follow the lead that he gives us.

-Thirdly, James challenges us to not be decieved when we are tempted and blame it on the Lord.  We must realize that we bring sin in by our own evil desires.  What we put in front of ourselves is what tempts us.

This book is going to be amazing to go through!  Hang out and just wait for God to continue to rock your world.
