A huge concept in being a leader comes from James chapter 4. James begins chapter 4 by challenging us about our motives in what we ask God for. I know for myself there are so many times when I am wanting something so bad and am willing to do anything to get it. Often times as I struggle and struggle to achieve this for myself I then decide I to turn and ask God to take care of this for me. And even at this point it is very obvious that it is not something I need and now have resulted that I am asking God for all the wrong motives. This is often because I want something that does not honor God but just for my own pleasure. As a leader everything we do we should be pointing people towards God and bringing him glory.
As you continue to read James 4 you see the common theme is to submit yourself to God. Leaders often find this something hard to TOTALLY do. Many times as leaders we want to submit to God, but often times find certain areas in our life hard to totally submit to God. We will say God you can have all my life to do whatever you want with…but don’t tell me who or who I can’t date. God you can have all of my life except my career choice. James challenges us to examine our hearts and when we say God here am I as a blank check, write it however you want, to truly make this check blank. What area in your life have you been holding back on God with?
