Last Monday I started studying the book of Joshua with our leadership students.  They are going to be studying Joshua for the next 8 weeks or so.  My hope was to study the book of Joshua over the next 8 weeks with them.  I have found that that might become a little difficult since the first chapter took me almost a week to complete.  But here is what I have learned the past week from Joshua 1.

-You can’t be very excited to be Joshua succeeding a legend like Moses.  What a tough job, but Joshua could take courage from what Moses told him here.

-Joshua was going to be successful because the Lord had filled him with wisdom here.  Every leader needs to be praying for wisdom.

-Every leader needs someone to mentor them and one day hand them the torch.

-God does not just put all his power in one person or one leader.  He continues to pass the torch of leadership to others.  Joshua 1:5

-To be a leader courage is required.  I think we can see that here.  Do you think God wanted Joshua to be courageous?

-Leaders have to be in the Word.  Something we all struggle with.  Leaders must be in it day and night.  Joshua 1:8

-Leaders have to have a group of people who rally around them.  I know for me there are people who would do the same thing they talk about here.

Just a short little dose for you of what the Lord has been teaching me this past week.  What has God shown you this past week?
